Huh? What the--?
After the success that the LFL had in getting a league started in Australia and with plans for another in Canada in December, and a LFL Europe in 2014 the league wants to focus on the athletics of the sport.
Umm...okay...
Supposedly there have been some in other nations who have taken issue with the sex appeal of the league being emphasized over the competition.
Umm...are they missing the point? The idea is to see a good arena style football game, but by hot chicks in skimpy outfits--hence the name of the league. It grew to the popularity that it has not because of the quality of football, but because the babes are hot.
See for yourself:
If they want this to be about the football then they will have to start signing women with that start the Biggest Loser (as well as some that end it). Real football has big bodies that can block, rush the passer, and just flatten people (as one of the male variety that used to do that I understand the role).
But--and I mean no disrespect ladies--that is not what folks are paying to see. If that is what the LFL is thinking folks want they should look up some past attempts at professional women's football leagues:
- Women's American Football League
- Women's Affiliate Football Conference
- United Women's Football League
- Women's Spring Football League
- American Football Women's League
- Women's Football Association
- Ladies Tackle Football League
- Women's Football League
- Women's Professional Football League
- National Women's Football Association
In all fairness there does appear to be a market for it. There are a number of actual women's football leagues; most with an international presence.
- Independent Women's Football League
- Women's Football Alliance
- Women's Spring Football League
- Maritime Women's Football League
- Western Women's Canadian Football League
I can't tell if those are actual money making leagues or not, but my first inclination is to say they are not. So you might want to think twice about this LFL...
