Lost in the shuffle that has been the craziness surrounding Johnny Manziel has been the play of some of the guys around him. Every great quarterback has to have top-notch receivers to throw to; guys like Ryan Swope.
Like head coach Kevin Sumlin said in his post-game comments following the 41-13 win over Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl, the leadership and play that the seniors provided over the course of the year has been a major part of the team's success.
Chief among those seniors has been wide receiver Ryan Swope. He wasn't the No. 1 option this season due to the rise of freshman Mike Evans. That didn't stop him from having another quality year; a year that was topped off with a 8 reception, 104 yard outing in his final game as a college football player.
One of the best and most meaningful catches of the night came on 4th and five late in the third quarter. With this 33-yard touchdown grab he became the career leader in receiving yards for Texas A&M (3117 by night's end).
CBS Sports has him listed as a third round pick in the 2013 draft. He isn't exceptionally tall at just 6 feet tall and he's listed at 206 pounds--nothing exceptional but he will not break easy either. His listed 40-speed is 4.53; faster than the average bear, but again not exceptional.
What will do it for him at the next level is that he can play. He's got hands and he knows how to get open and do something when he does get his hands on the ball. I can see him being a possession type recevier; a Wes Welker type.
