It has been a long time coming, but the Chicago Bulls finally got some much needed good news Friday. The team's superstar--Derrick Rose--has been cleared to get back on the hard court again!
Medial clearance is one thing, but the team is missing something important--Rose clearance. The former MVP has stated that he will not return to the court until he feels like he is ready. His stipulation is one that fans will be pretty jazzed up to see, because it will be pretty cool and what it will mean:
A dunk off his left foot.
Once he feels good about dunking off his left then he will get back in the game.
It's good that he has his own standard; hopefully the team will not pressure him too much to return before he is ready. Having his head in the game will be pretty important, and if he has to worry about his knee giving out whenever he goes up off his left his head will not be where it needs to be.
The timing could end up being pretty good for the Bulls. After Friday night's 89-88 squeaker over the Utah Jazz the Bulls are 35-27; second in their division and currently No. 5 should the playoffs start tomorrow.
Only a half game separates the Bulls from the Atlanta Hawks (No. 6) and Boston Celtics (No. 7). Milwaukee sits in No. 8 three and a half games behind them. No one else is really in playoff contention. Toronto is next in line, but they are 11 games back.
For the Bulls to miss the playoffs the team will have to go into an epic nosedive while Toronto will have to play lights out ball. It would not take much for the team to slip a few spots; even as far as No. 8. Should that happen once Rose returns they will be the most underrated 8 seed to ever take the court.
Now imagine if the Bulls do drop to No. 8 and have to face the Miami Heat. How much of a difference could a fresh Derrick Rose make in a best-of-seven series?
