March Madness Update: La Salle Edges Ole Miss in Close One

No. 13 seeds and No. 12 seeds are not supposed to meet in the tournament. Having one upset its opening round competition is not unusual, but both? As Vizzini from the Princess Bride would say--




Both did win their opening games, La Salle upsetting Kansas State and Ole Miss upsetting Wisconsin, but after Sunday only one underdog could move on.



Both teams had solid games making this match up a great one for the fans to watch. La Salle took a two-point lead into the half.

They held off the Rebels for the first ten minutes of the second half, but then Murphy Halloway and Marshall Henderson caught fire to put Ole Miss ahead by three with just under seven minutes to go, 65-62.

With the game tied at 72-72 and less than a minute to go Ladarius White and Marshall Henderson had a chance to put Ole Miss ahead, but missed their shots. However, following an Ole Miss turnover La Salle's Tyler Garland did not miss the go-ahead layup to make the score 74-72 for the Explorers.

The win is a historic one for the La Salle program. It marks the first time that the Explorers have made it to the Sweet 16, and it is the deepest run that the team has made since going to the championship game back in 1955 (when there were only 24 teams in the field).
