The 2013 NCAA tournament may very well go down as the Tournament of Upsets when all is said and done. Friday night No. 4 Kansas State became another victim to an underdog whose bit was so much more than its bark.
No. 4 seeds are supposed to run away with their first game against the lowly No. 13 seed, but in the case of La Salle and Kansas State it was all La Salle all the time.
The Explorers had an 18 point lead at the half, 44-26, but came out ice cold in the second. In fact they managed to make three whole baskets from the floor in the second half (thank goodness for free throws).
With shooting like that it is understandable that the Wildcats would get back in the game. When Jordan Henriquez made a layup with 2:25 to go in the game K-State actually took a one point lead, 61-60.
At that point the Wildcats went ice cold and couldn't hit a shot the rest of the game. La Salle couldn't either, but Jerrell Wright was fouled twice in the last 30 seconds trying to making three of four, and putting the underdog Explorers on top to stay.
Next up will be another upset minded team, the No. 12 seed Ole Miss. Marshall Henderson and crew overcame his slow start to win 57-46 over Wisconsin. The two will meet on Sunday.
