Byron Scott and Lawrence Frank Fired; First Two to Get the Ax on Black Thursday

In the NFL they call it Black Monday. It's the day after the regular season ends and many of the teams that are done playing start to look to the future. Time to make changes so that next post season they are still playing instead of watching from home. Step one is to fire the leader of the team that is supposed to guide them to victory--the head coach.

With the end of the NBA regular season last night Thursday has been, well--Black Thursday for the NBA with two coaches getting the proverbial ax so far.

Yo Byron, I think I'm going to go ahead and quit so they can't fire me. (He could have said it...)
Doug Collins had already announced that he was retiring at the end of the season (possibly because he knows he would have been fired). So when the Cleveland Cavaliers announced that Byron Scott was being let go he became the first coach to get the ax today.

Scott was never quite in a good position. He took over just days before LeBron James announced his big 'Decision' that he was taking his considerable talents to South Beach. That essentially decimated that team, and showed why LeBron was not able to win a championship with the Cavs--they were not very good.

So after three losing seasons (19-63; 21-45; 24-58) it was decided the team needs a new direction and a new leader to guide them towards it.

The folks in Detroit were not as patient with Lawrence Frank giving him the ole heave ho after just two seasons (25-41 and 29-63). For him it seemed more of a situation where the team is simply not patient enough to see if Frank can turn it around. That has been par for the course with the Pistons having had three head coaches the last five seasons now.

Should either team get the right coach they could change their position in the NBA hierarchy as early as next season. Tack on the lottery pick that they will both get and each roster is going to have a nice collection of young talent (Cleveland--Kyrie Irving , Dion Waiters, Tyler Zeller and Tristan Thompson; Detroit-- Brandon Knight, Kyle Singler, and Andre Drummond).
