Metta World Peace Talks About Jason Collins Like You Would Expect He Would

Jason Collins turned the sports world on edge Monday when he announced that he is gay. Many responded in favor and support of Collins, some in shock and disbelief, others outright rejected Collins. All was about as could be expected.

What could not be expected was the rather unique way in which one Metta World Peace commented on Jason Collins coming out and what he paralleled being gay to.

“Whether it’s a free country or not, you should be free to act as you want to do as long as it’s not violent,” he said, via Mark Medina of the LA Daily News. “No matter what it is. I came here in a Cookie Monster shirt because I wanted to, and I was going to wear the pants. But I thought you guys were going to judge me. I was going to wear the hat too. But I thought you guys would judge me. I didn’t want Mitch [Kupchak] to judge me. So that’s why I didn’t wear the hats and the pants. But I should’ve wore it. You should be free to do and act how you want to act.”
If you look at it metaphorically it is actually pretty profound. I want to be different so I am, but I am afraid of what others think so I am not as different as I want to be--probably a lot like Collins felt the last 12 years in the NBA.

If you take it at face value its like listing to him talk about how he is too sexy for his cat again. Does Cookie Monster have a hat (it's been awhile since I've been into the Blue Guy)?

Metta is being Metta--just as it should be; just like Collins is now just being Collins.

Like he should be.
