The sad thing is Josh Donaldson hit a home run in the 12th on Friday to give the A's the win over the Tigers, but no one is going to care about that. They are just going to talk about this pitch from Detroit's Rick Porcello to Donaldson on Sunday.
There was one thing that happened very early in my baseball career that told me I did not want to play (and wouldn't be any good). I got nailed by a pitch--and it hurt. I played football, and could care less about those hits, but this one really sucked.
I got in the habit of stepping away from the plate after that every time I swung. My coach had to stand behind me and threaten to kick me in the behind if I didn't stop (I did; but I still sucked).
Why am I sharing this story? Because that is what the A's hitting coach may need to do for Josh Donaldson so he can get over his fear of curve balls!
