Tim Tebow Released by New York Jets (finally!)

It's been a long time coming. We have all expected it; heck--some have even hoped for it (all be it for different reasons). Today it actually happened.

The New York Jets have released the most popular back-up quarterback in the NFL, Tim Tebow.

Yes! I'm outta here!
The move has been expected for some time, but it became apparent to even the jets brass that they needed to move someone after they drafted Geno Smith and saw that he made six quarterbacks on their roster, the incumbent starter Mark Sanchez, Tebow, Greg McElroy, David Garrard, Matt Simms, and now Smith.

Not even the circus that the Jets are could justify keeping that many QBs on the roster for more than a few days; the fact that they have been carrying five has been enough of a surprise. If the Jets were going to trade Tebow they would have by now, but since they had not it was time to just let him go.

Tebowmaniacs will be happy their hero is out of New York, but the hard fact that will have to be faced now is the possible end to his time as an NFL player. It is a little telling that the Jets could not find anyone willing to give up even a 7th round pick for him (now I don't know what they were asking or willing to take of course).

So what now?

His QB coach says that his throwing motion is fixed, but whether he can get into camp somewhere and prove it will be the hard part. There is always the Great White North up in Canada; nothing better than a passer's league to prove your passing motion is better.

He also has an open offer from the Orlando Predators of the Arena League. It would put him in front of a home crowd that will still adore him from his days in Gainesville, and the Arena game has been credited with helping make Kurt Warner tha passer he was in the NFL.

Whatever happens from here is going to happen, but there is one thing that fans can rest assured on. Tim Tebow is going to be fine. The youngster has too much character and class to let this setback have a lasting affect on his life.

Just like when he led the Denver Broncos to a playoff berth and win, someway,  somehow Tim Tebow will find the right path and come out on top.
