Lyle is a senior member of the University of New Hampshire track team where he throws the shot put and hammer. A couple years ago he went to a bone marrow registry and added his name. The chance that he would ever be used was minuscule to say the least.
But sure enough--it happened.
A 28-year old man with lymphoblastic leukemia was in need of a transplant or he would end up dying within the next six months. Lyle happened to be the just right match, but in making the donation he is effectively ending his college track career.
“It was kind of a no-brainer for a decent human,” he told ABC News. “I couldn’t imagine just waiting. He could have been waiting for years for a match. I’d hope that someone would donate to me if I needed it.”The operation was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 24. Best of luck to you Cameron. You're a good man.
