NFL Awards Super Bowls L and LI to San Francisco and Houston

When it comes to planning the Super Bowl the NFL likes to have the host site selected a few years in advance. Since it is the culmination of a long, hard fought season that averages a cool $9 billion in revenue the finally has to be done right. With a few years to plan there is no conceivable reason for anything to go wrong (right Jerry Jones?).

So with that in mind the NFL announced the hosts for Super Bowl L and LI, the San Francisco 49ers and Houston Texans.

The going logic these days in the NFL seems to be build a new stadium, host a Super Bowl. It worked for Houston. It worked for Dallas, and now it appear that it is going to work for San Francisco. Levi's Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers, is going to be the site of Super Bowl L.

With the only other city in contention for L being Miami the choice was easy. The Dolphins had hoped to make some much needed up grades to their stadium in order to bring an 11th Super Bowl to South Beach, but the necessary funding proposal was voted down.

This made it pretty easy for Houston to win the bid for LI. The logic was pretty much the same. The choices were either old Sun Life Stadium or still fairly new Reliant Stadium (10 years old). Voting results have not been made public, but I don't imagine Miami got may if any votes.
