The road to fame and fortune has been a rocky one for Vince Young and one that is not necessarily done just yet, but is teetering dangerously close to finality. After being out of the game for a season it would seem that his day is done.
Inconsistent play combined with serious character issues on and off the field (yes, there have been plenty that did worse than him, but that doesn’t excuse his actions) have led to the former national champion looking for work at the age of 30 when he should be in the prime of his career.
If only his career had taken a different route.
Back in 2006 when he led the Texas Longhorns to the 2005 National Championship he was on top of the world. He had the perfect opportunity to showcase his talents against the defending national champions (USC) and did just that with 467 total yards and three touchdowns in what many have called one of the greatest games in college football history.
The stage was set following an incredible win in the 2006 Rose Bowl that brought a national title to the University of Texas. When the Tennessee Titans took him with the No. 3 pick in the 2006 draft he was on his way. That is until character issues, injuries, and inconsistent play brought his time in Tennessee to an end just four years later.
Being the kind of athlete that he is it was no surprise that he was able to catch on with Philadelphia for the ’11 season and then Buffalo the following year. He didn’t make the final roster for the Bills, and ended up sitting out the ’12 season.
If there was ever a crossroads this was it....
