Dallas Mavericks Making a Push for Rajon Rondo?

For the first  time in the Mark Cuba Era the Dallas Mavericks did not make the post season last year. That is something the fan base is not real happy with and Mark Cuban is going to do whatever he can to correct. Should he do what he wants to in free agency this off-season he should be able to do just that.

Like bring in Rajon Rondo from Boston.

Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe reported Saturday that the Mavericks are definitely interested in the young point guard. Talks have been ongoing, but it looks like there may be a couple pretty big stumbling blocks in the way.

Boston general manager Danny Ainge wants to continue tearing the team down so he wants to dump some contracts on the Maverick. Depending on how many, it could be an issue for the Mavs who are trying to clear up as much room as possible to pay Dwight Howard (if they can lure him away from LA and beat out Houston).

The Celtics don't want to suck next year and realize they need to have something or someone to draw fans in. Who better than one of the best big guys in the game--Dirk Nowitzki.

There is a better chance Jerry Jones will step down as general manager of the Dallas Cowboys and hire a ream GM than for Cuban to trade Dirk. Or at least fans would hope so, but as we hear time and time again professional sports are a business first and a game second.

It's kind of interesting that the Celtics are even interested in Dirk after they agreed to a deal to ship Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce away. It could be that they would in turn look to trade him away to someone else in the hopes of collecting future draft picks.

Dallas wants to do the deal in order to use Rondo as a carrot for Dwight Howard; a way of showing how serious they are about building a good, young team around him. With talks for the big man set to go into overdrive in the next few days they will have to make this one happen quick.

If it is going to happen at all.
