He is one of the best wide receivers to play in the game, but no one wants to play with him. His career appears to be over not because he decided to retire or because of a career ending injury--it's because no one wants him and what many believe to be one of the worst attitudes in the NFL.
He's had public issues with the mothers of his children, financial woes, and at times a perception that he is a little on the crazy side (drug overdoses will do that to you).
There is every reason to think that it would suck to be Terrell Owens, but as he would likely have no trouble telling you it most certainly does not.
Owens has not played in a meaningful NFL game since 2010, yet the outspoken wide receiver remains a man in demand. Can you think of an event involving the NFL that he has not been at? Even without playing he has maintained his status as a celebrity.
Apparently he is doing well with his professional bowling team and even has a pretty good game himself!
Now I don't know how well that translates into financial success of course, but if he was doing bad I am sure we would have heard about it on Dr. Phil, TMZ, or something by now.
But to go from the NFL to the PBA? Doesn't that kind of suck? If you think about it for a second--no.
Every player struggles with life after football to some extent; some much more so than others. Had he not been so vilified in the media his whole career he could have made a good studio analyst, but with his rep no one will touch him.
Except ESPN maybe. Heck, they've got Bill Simmons and Skip Bayless on the payroll. Maybe ESPN should ditch First Take for a new show--the Three Amigos! Starring the dynamic trio of Simmons, Bayless, and TO.
The PBA may not be glamourous, but it puts money in the bank account. Besides, it's not the only gig he has these days anyway. He recently served as a judge for the 2013 2013 Miss Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant.
So he got to spend time hanging out with some of the hottest women on the planet and I am going to assume eating some awesome wings.
Tough gig, right? Yeah, life may not be what he thought it was going to be at this point for the former Pro Bowler, but there is one thing that can be said with an absolute certainty.
It certainly doesn't suck to be TO.
