Olympic Boxing Hopeful has the Most Awesome Name in Sports

People change their names for all sorts of reasons. Maybe they just didn't like what they had. Maybe its for work, i.e. a stage name. Many folks due so for religious reasons. Then there are those that change it just to change it. There may be a reason for it, but they are the only ones that know.

Some to signify a change or rebirth. That's why Lenroy Thompson change his , and what he changed it to is easily the most awesome name in sports.

Cam F. Awesome.

When someone wants to be called Mr. Awesome you would usually be safe to assume that they are an incredible egomaniac. In the case of the boxer formerly known as Lenroy Thompson that is not the case at all.

Thompson was supposed to have a good shot at a medal in the '12 Olympic Games in London, but was suspended by the Anti-Doping Agency when he failed to meet requirements in regards to his whereabouts for testing.

Things quickly nose-dived for him. Sponsors were lost, he quite taking care of himself and his weight ballooned; not a good thing for someone trying to be a personal trainer.

After sinking pretty low he managed to climb out of the darkness, dropped a ton of weight, and even started boxing again.

He felt like he had become a new man; a better man--and a pretty great one at that.

"During that year I had to take off, that guy who was [suspended] rotted away slowly and died," he said. "And out of the cocoon came awesomeness. ... You can figure out the rest."

So he changed his name--and Cam F. Awesome was born.

"The F is whatever you want it to be in your imagination," Awesome said. "Fun. That's good. Family. Another good thought. Friend? Yep. Frog Eyes? Ok, too. But that other one you guessed? [Bleeping]? Yeah, that's good, too. I like how that sounds: Cam [Bleeping] Awesome."

Word is that he is a tremendous boxer and could very well compete for the gold in Rio in '16, which would of course be--awesome.
