That guy is Dwight Howard. The Los Angeles Lakers took a gamble on bringing him in last season in hopes that he would mesh well with the team, resign after the season ended, and become the new cornerstone once Kobe Bryant retires. Things didn’t quite go as planned and now the big man is testing the open market.
So far it appears as if the Houston Rockets are going to be his new home. General manager Daryl Morey has been working on freeing up the necessary cap space to sign him to the max contract, and has crafted a team that many think is one marquee player away from being a championship contender.
Houston has much more than just championship caliber play to entice Howard. As nice as the contract he’ll sign will be he stands to make some real money with marketing and endorsement deals—in China. The Rockets have become a popular team in the Far East thanks to Yao Ming and now Jeremy Lin. Last season an estimated 300 million people watched the Rockets from China....
