Dallas Cowboys Tip Their Offensive Hand By Cutting Lawrence Vickers

Lawrence Vickers is looking for a new job after getting cut by Dallas, but the Cowboys offense may have found an identity in the process.

With training camp right around the corner teams likely have a pretty good idea of what sort of offense they plan on running. That's a good thing of course; lets you know what personnel you need and what you don't need--which is likely why the Dallas Cowboys cut loose fullback Lawrence Vickers.

When the Cowboys signed Vickers in March it made sense. They have had a lot of trouble keeping running backs healthy not to mention just gaining yards. Last season the only team that had fewer rushing yards a game was Arizona (79.1 yards/game for Dallas; 75.3 yards/game for Arizona).

So with the help of a fullback maybe the holes could be opened up a little more and the running back can take less of a beating. Makes sense right? But then the team cuts him.

So now what?

The answer is really pretty easy--a whole lot of two tight end sets. It explains why the team used a second round draft pick on another tight end (Gavin Escobar) even though they arguably have the best one in the league in Jason Witten....
