There are few cities that are going to be as excited for the 2013 NFL season to start as the Seattle Seahawks. After Russell Wilson emerged from the middle of the draft to win the starting job the Seahawks went on the have the best season fans have seen in years--and that was with a slow start as Wilson adjusted to the pro game.
A year later and a year better the fans are looking to do something the franchise has never done--win the Super Bowl and become world champions. Before they do that they have aims of becoming world class when the Seahawks open the regular season against the San Francisco 49ers.
In fact, they want to become world record holders; Guinness Book of World Record holders.
A fan group that goes by the name "Volume 12"-- after the team's 12th man-- has applied to become the new Guinness Book of World Records holder for the loudest crowd in sports. Officials will be on hand to monitor the noise level of the stadium September 15 when the 49ers are in town.
If they can't do it against a rival like the 49ers than they don't stand a chance. They Seattle crowd is easily the loudest in the NFL at 112 decibels, but to beat the record they will have to reach a level higher than 131.76 (a mark set by a Turkish soccer crown in March 2011).
It will not be easy, but if there is a crowd with crazy enough fans to do it Seattle's 12th man is it.
Arrowhead Stadium has already been measured at 116 decibels before.
