Dez Bryant Doesn't Want Johnny Manziel Suspended But Will Be Mad If He Isn't

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant has been towing the company line lately; trying to prove that he has grown up finally. For once he has not bee in the media for anything other than claiming he is going to shoot for some pretty high numbers this season--until now.

Like just about every football player and fan he is aware of the controversy surrounding Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, and recently decided to share his thoughts.

When asked how we would feel if the NCAA uncovered evidence that Manziel did take money for autographs but wasn't suspended he said:

"Hell yeah, I’ll be mad," Bryant said. "I will be mad. But I don’t want him to get suspended. I will be mad more at the NCAA on how they do things. I just feel like it’s not fair. This is something I have no problem talking about because I feel like somebody needs to say something to him and let it be known how they treat people is not right."

For those that don't know or remember, Bryant was suspended for his final season at Oklahoma State after the NCAA discovered that he lied about having dinner with former Dallas Cowboys defensive back Deion Sanders--a legal dinner.

No impermissible benefits. All he did was lie and lost a season of his college career.

Technically, the NCAA was acting within its rules by suspending Bryant. It is a violation to lie to investigators when they are looking into a possible violation. This is where it sucked for Bryant--he lied because he was scared. Had he been aware of and understood the rules and what was going on he would have realized he has nothing to worry about and would not have lied.

So, yeah, he has a pretty good reason to be upset if the NCAA finds Manziel is guilty and does not suspend him. However, he does not want Manziel suspended. Like many, he is against the NCAA for profiting so much off of players like Manziel and thinks they should be compensated.

"I feel like they should," Bryant said. "I feel like players in the NCAA should...I think what would be OK would be to have just a little bit of money in your pocket. It’s hard in college. You’ve got to get a job [in the offseason] if you can. You’ve got to practice. It’s just hard. Sometimes the training table is just not good enough."

His opinion is one that more and more seem to be agreeing with. It will be interesting to see how Manziel's investigation and the subsequent fallout develops.
