Texas Rangers Cut Manny Ramirez Loose

It seemed like a can't lose situation for the Texas Rangers a few weeks ago when they signed Mannny Ramirez to a minor league contract. Should he do well he could be a valuable addition to the ball club down the stretch. If he doesn't--no harm, no foul.

As luck would have it the Rangers were just not interested.

The Rangers have cut Ramirez loose after 30 games with the team's triple-A affiliate in Round Rock. He didn't necessarily suck while he was there, but when you only hit .259 in the minors with just a handful of extra base hits you aren't going to get called up to the Show.

"Based on our evaluation there was not a spot for Manny on the club at this time," general manager Jon Daniels said. "We released him so he could pursue other opportunities."

Will he get another opportunity? In the Majors--probably not. The folks in Taiwan were pretty fond of him and he didn't do have bad other there (.352 in 49 games with eight home runs and 43 RBIs).

So if he doesn't mind living outside of the United States maybe, but otherwise it might be time to hang 'em up.
