Jacksonville Jaguars Should Let Denard Robinson Play Quarterback

It's another bad start for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Heck, no sense in beating around the bush--they suck. A local station apologized to viewers for broadcasting the Jaguars game last week. This week they bribed fans with free beer to get them in the stands.

As bad as they play maybe the alcohol can numb the pain of being a fan, right?

A small following keeps publicly calling for the team to pick up Tim Tebow. There is a logic to it. He is a local boy so just having him in the game could boost attendance for at least a few weeks. If he actually leads the team to a few wins....

But lets not talk crazy. The team can't sign Tebow now; it will look like they are bending to the pressure applied by a small group of fans (what did they have--15 at the rally recently?).

As bad as the team is you have to think they need to do something. To go through a whole season like they are now? That's not just painful for the fans; that's cruel and unusual punishment. They need to do something different.

Blaine Gabbert isn't getting the job done. Chad Henne wasn't much better. So who can they play without having to pick up a free agent that wasn't good enough to make a roster?

Former Michigan Wolverines quarterback Denard Robinson.

When Robinson worked out at something other than quarterback for the all-star games and at the combine (I think) I thought it was a brilliant move on his part. In college he was a good but not great quarterback; more of a runner. He was not a very accurate passer, and in today's NFL you can't play QB without being accurate.

So why play him?

Just like the Tebow following says--why not?

The team has to do something different, and he is the easiest and quickest change they can make without looking like complete fools by bringing in someone off the street. Robinson is a gifted athlete that can at least give the Jaguars an additional running threat on the field to pair with Maurice Jones-Drew.

Maybe the Jags can run more of a read option style. Maybe the additional running threat from someone as elusive as Robinson can be will force teams to stack against the run and open up a few passing lanes. Maybe by forcing teams to account for him and MJD they can open some running lanes by spreading the defense out.

Maybe--just maybe--they won't suck and can at least be entertaining if not competitive.

As bad as the offense has looked for the Jags this season what do they have to lose?
