Jim Brown Still Doesn’t Like Trent Richardson

When the Cleveland Browns drafted Trent Richardson out of Alabama Jim Brown was not too happy with them. What is that youngster? Who is Jim Brown? He is just the greatest running back to ever live, a Hall of Famer, and a living legend.

That’s all.

So when a guy like Jim Brown speaks, people listen. When he heard of the trade he did not hesitate when asked what he thought:

“…I thought it was a brilliant move … Because first of all, Trent [Richardson] couldn’t have carried the kind of load that Cleveland needed.”

The question is—what kind of load did Cleveland need?

Most NFL and major colleges use a running back by committee approach these days. It keeps players fresh, reduces the risk of injury, and makes them more effective when they do play.

Last season he carried the ball 267 times; Montario Hardesty had the second highest number of carries at 65. In his first game with Indianapolis he carried the ball 13 times and Ahmad Bradshaw had 19 carries. Ask anyone that watched the game and they will tell you it was the running game that won the game.

Colin Kaepernick can’t score if he doesn’t have the ball.

So when it comes down to it the greatest running back in the NFL was right. Trent Richardson could not give the Browns what they need—an every down back.

But when combined with another solid running back in Ahmad Bradshaw he will certainly help give the Colts something they are not accustomed to having (and the Browns still don't).

A running game.
