Lane Kiffin Fired by USC

With the way things have gone for the once proud USC Trojans over the last year or so you had to think this move was coming soon--USC has finally dropped the ax on Lane Kiffin and fired him.

The school has released the following statement:

[USC AD Pat] Haden informed Kiffin of his termination upon the team charter's arrival back in Los Angeles early Sunday morning following USC's 62-41 loss at Arizona State.
Kiffin's Trojans have lost 7 of their past 11 games. USC is 3-2 this year and has lost both of its Pac-12 games. His overall record in 4 years at USC is 28-15.
Haden will hold a press conference at USC on Sunday afternoon at a time and place to be announced.

It was a little surprising that it didn't happen after last season when the team started the year as a preseason No. 1, but quickly fell off the radar. A 7-6 finish for a program like the Trojans is unheard of prompting calls for his job then.

For some reason the school decided to give him a chance again this season. Things didn't start well when the team had a hard time with Hawaii--yes, Hawaii. A loss to Washington State (who now looks pretty decent) and a tough win over Utah State had the stage set.

A 62-4 shellacking by Arizona State was the final straw.
