Bears to Lose Jay Cutler for the Next Month

The Chicago Bears lost a tough one Sunday to the Washington Redskins and Robert Griffin III (who played his most complete game of the season to date), and that was with back up Josh McCown at the helm for the majority of the game.

As it turns out it looks like McCown is going to be at the  helm for the next four weeks.

Cutler was knocked out of the game pretty early after getting sacked. It was pretty clear on the field that he was hurting, and when he walked--no, more like rambled--back to the locker room it was easy to see that something wasn't right.

That something ended up being his groin--which ended up being torn.

Chicago is on a bye next week so he could miss only three games, but that is assuming that it heals and that there are no setbacks over the next few weeks.

Fans have to be encouraged by the way Josh McCown played against Washington. He was 14-20 for 204 yards and a touchdown in relief of Cutler--not bad for a guy that has only played preseason the last couple of years.

There will not be much margin for error going forward. The next three teams the Bears face are all good teams (Green Bay, Cincinnati, and Baltimore). Baltimore has played poorly this season, but the Bengals and Packers would be tough even with Cutler guiding the offense.

Just in case they needed the next few weeks to be a bigger challenge--linebacker Lance Briggs is going to miss the next 4-6 weeks with a shoulder injury.
