Catchers Collide at the Plate Early in Game 5 of the ALCS (awesome view of the hit)

Baseball is a contact sport when it comes to the bat and ball, but as far as the players go not so much. There is one play where they do come into contact and when this play happens it is often pretty epic. That play--when the catcher has the ball and the runner has no choice but to truck him over and hope that he knocks the tar out of him so bad that he drops the ball.

Early in Game 5 of the ALCS we had just such a play develop when Boston catcher David Ross decided he was going to take home. The throw was made to Detroit's catcher, Alex Avilla, in time giving Ross only one option.

Can't say I envy Avilla watching Ross baring down on him, but I salute you Mr. Avilla for holding onto the ball.

Well done sir (I think Mr. Ross agrees).
