Peyton's former boss, Jim Irsay, has said that there will be a tribute to the Colts former leader since they never really had one during his final season. After some comments that Irsay made recently he might want to tell Irsay to forget the tribute.
Irsay has been known to stick his foot in his metaphorical mouth on Twitter, but he really did a number during a recent interview:
“We’ve changed our model a little bit, because we wanted more than one of these,” Irsay said, referring to his Super Bowl XLI ring. “[Tom] Brady never had consistent numbers, but he has three of these. Pittsburgh had two, the Giants had two, Baltimore had two and we had one. That leaves you frustrated.
“You make the playoffs 11 times, and you’re out in the first round seven out of 11 times. You love to have the Star Wars numbers from Peyton and Marvin [Harrison] and Reggie [Wayne]. Mostly, you love [championships].”So yeah, Peyton, you were good and all; a fantasy player's dream. You couldn't win the big one more than once so it was time for you to go.
Wow. What a load of crap. Irsay must not realize that without Peyton the team would have sucked--like they did the one season he was injured.
Peyton's current coach John Fox has expressed his displeasure with Irsay and his comments, and while Peyton will never publicly say anything he should ask Irsay to forget about it. Since he was not good enough to win more Super Bowl's for the Colts he doesn't need their tribute.
He just needs to show that the tea never should have let him go.
