Paul Bunyan's Ax Staying With Wisconsin Yet Again

This looked like it could finally be the season for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. After a four-game winning streak the team was ranked in the top 25 (at No. 25) and all this without their head coach on the sideline! They don't exactly light up the stat sheet, but they get the job done.

So maybe the Gophers would finally end a nine-year losing streak?

Nope.

Wisconsin got on the board first with a field goal in the first. Minnesota countered with a touchdown, but that was all the scoring they would do. The Badgers would take a 13-7 lead into the half, and close out the scoring about midway through the third quarter with the team's second touchdown of the day.

So when the final seconds ticked away the Badgers knew what time it was--time to chop down the goal posts!

Not literally of course. It's just a symbolic thing the winner does with the huge ax they win (the trophy). It is apparently a tradition--and one that the Golden Gophers did not want to see again on their field.

So they put a stop to it (NSFW).

Whether it was Minnesota still singing their alma mater or the Golden Gophers tired of seeing Wisconsin celebrate on their turf we will likely never know.

As you can see in the GIF above, they got too anyway.
