Prince Fielder Headed to the Texas Rangers

If there was one thing the Texas Rangers lacked last season it was pop. With Josh Hamilton gone (officially; his bat checked out midway through the '12 season) and Nelson Cruz suspended the offense did lose some sizzle. With a lot of young pitching last season the last thing the team needed was inconsistent offense.

It appears that they will be breathing some life into before next season.

According to the word on the web the Rangers are in the process of trading Ian Kinsler to the Detroit Tigers for Prince Fielder.

How's that for adding some pop?

Last season was actually a down year for Fielder (.279 BA, .457 SLG, .389 OBP, 25 home runs, 106 RBIs), but his numbers would still be among the best that the Rangers have. Of the players that played at least 100 games last season only Adrian Beltre was better.

Incidentally, none of the Rangers played the entire season last year; Beltre played in the most games (161). Fielder has only misses one game in the last five years.

The only way this could go bad is if Fielder comes down with the same affliction that Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols got when they switched teams--'cant-hit-itus.' Than again, Fielder isn't going to the Angels so he should be okay.
