Baylor Beats TCU But Needs to Get Over Their Slump Before Facing Texas

Some would say the fact that TCU was in the game to the end against Baylor is a victory. Just don’t tell Casey Pachal or Gary Patterson that.

It was a rough week for the Baylor Bears. They had to get over the loss to Oklahoma State; an embarrassing one to say the least. More importantly though was Head Coach Art Briles having to deal with the death of his brother due to an accident earlier in the week.

"We were all playing for him," Baylor nickelback Sam Holl said. "He's going through a rough time right now with his family. We really wanted to get this one for him." 

In the first quarter it looked like the Bears were going to run away with this one for their coach. They started off the game with three long scoring drives (17, 13, and 12 plays covering 186 yards) pretty much in the first quarter of play. After that the offense was all but flat with a few exceptions. Had it not been for the 21 points scored off of three TCU turnovers (two interceptions returned for touchdowns and a fumble recovered at the one-yard line) this game could have had an unhappy ending for the Bears. 

''For the defense to have played like they did, I mean, I can't say enough about the defense,'' Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty said. ''The defense is the MVP of this team, the way they turned it around, the way they kept us in games.''....
