Officials Screw Up the End of the Washington/New York Game on Sunday Night Football

Sunday night's game was going well for the most part till the end of the game. After getting out to an early lead the Redskins forgot how to play on offense and the Giants remembered enough to take a 24-17 lead. With a chance to tie it Washington was driving, but than the refs screwed up a pretty crucial moment.

It was enough of a screw up that even the woman on the chain gang knew it was messed up!

It was kind of a messed up moment. Washington was in hurry up mode and thought it had a first down. One of the sideline officials was waving the chain gang up and the marker said '1' so it makes sense, right?

Turns out that was not right. It was actually 3rd and 1 instead. Mike Shanahan went off on the refs--as he should--but at that point it was too little too late.

Washington did end up getting the first down on a fourth down play, but the ball was ripped out of the hands of Pierre Garcon effectively ending the game.

From Bleacher Report
There is no excuse for the confusion that was created. At the least the refs should have stopped and measured this one; it was close enough to warrant it. Instead we have a sequence that is reminiscent of the replacement refs.
