Baylor’s Loss to UCF Shows Art Briles Has Some Work To Do

It’s been a heck of a year for the Baylor Bears and Art Briles, but the same old problems led to a loss in the Fiesta Bowl to the UCF Knights.

January 1 marks the beginning of a new year; time for a fresh start. It means you can leave the last year and all its troubles where they belong---in the past. For a football coach that means no more worrying over losses and mistakes and if you happen to be playing a game on New Year’s Day it’s a chance to start the year on the right track.

For Art Briles and the Baylor Bears it just wasn’t meant to happen. Instead, after falling to the UCF Knights 52-42 in a game they never led the team has the next eight months or so to think about what’s wrong—like a lack of composure and discipline.

When the team needed to be at its best to overcome a deficit late in the game it made one stupid penalty after another—just like they had the entire game. In the end they committed 17 for 135 yards; no big deal for an offense that generates over 500 yards a game. However, when a defense gives up over 500 yards of offense it is.
