To be the man you have to beat the man, and the No. 25 Pitt Panthers came damn close to doing just that Wednesday night. However, as Sgt. Slaughter used to always say in the old G.I. Joe cartoons--close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
And no one was hurling explosives or tossing horseshoes around at the Petersen Events Center.

Pitt led pretty much the whole way in what was a hotly contested game, but they didn't lead when it mattered most thanks to freshman guard Tyler Ennis. With time ticking away he drove down the court and put a threee-pointer with two seconds on the clock to put the Orange up 58-56.
Next up for the Orange--North Carolina State in the friendly confines of the Carrier Dome.
