PHOTO: LeBron James Bends to the NBA's Wishes and Wears Clear Mask

It was pretty freaking cool while it lasted, but the league has put an end to the coolest protective mask ever worn in an NBA game--LeBron James' super hero-like black mask. While not telling him he can't wear it the league requested that he not do it again.

Being the team player he is he acquiesced to the league's wishes even though he didn't see what the problem was.

It does the job of course and protects his still healing nose, but it just isn't cool like this one:

He only wore the black one because the clear one wasn't ready, but it got a great reaction from the fans and let's face it--he played like a badass the one game he wore it (than again it was just the Knicks).

It wasn't worth making a stink over though so he made the switch even though he didn't get why it was necessary (via ESPN):
I don't know if I expected it, but I'm not surprised. It's not a league rule, but it's the league's request that you don't wear the black one. For the reasons that they told me, it didn't make sense to me. But hey, I'm just a player in this league and I will abide by this request -- I'm not even going to say rule, but request -- by the NBA.
So good buy cool mask. Thanks to the internet you will not be forgotten!
