Robert Griffin III: No Knee Brace For Me Next Season

Robert Griffin III had a great rookie season. His sophomore season--not so much. The blame could be put in  a variety of places from inflated expectations to a lack of a running game to his knee not being healthy when he did come back.

Or maybe it was the knee brace.

For a guy whose game is dependent on his mobility having it hampered even a little can be detrimental to his game. Coming off of major knee surgery he needed to wear it, but even the best braces are a little bulky. Even if it didn't have any actual affect on his ability it could still have a mental one.

That can be just as bad.

Whether it did hamper his game will not matter next season though because he will not be wearing it.
"I took it off the year after [ACL surgery] at Baylor [in 2009],” Griffin said. “Me, [team trainer] Larry [Hess], Dr. [James] Andrews, Dr. [Anthony] Casolaro, Dr. [Chris] Annunziata, we’ll all sit down and figure it out.”

“But,” he added, “I think it’s safe to say I won’t be wearing the brace.”
After wining their first division title of the millennium in 2012 Redskins fans saw their team its worst season in close to two decades last season. So if RG3 thinks ditching the knee brace will help its unlikely anyone is going to argue with him.
