Northern Illinois QB Jordan Lynch Signs With Chicago Bears--But as a Running Back

The Chicago Bears will be bringing in two big name rookie quarterbacks to camp this season. One they drafted and hope will be the heir apparent to that Jay Cutler guy. The other they don't want taking a single snap behind center. I'm talking about San Jose State's David Fales and Northern Illinois's Jordan Lynch.

Any guesses as to what they want each to do?

David Fales has been one of the most buzzed about QBs leading up to the draft, but like many of the others that garnered buzz will need some time to develop. That's good since the Bears hope to get a few more seasons out of Cutler.

Jordan Lynch, on the other hand, didn't really generate any buzz. You would think he might after being a Heisman trophy finalist, but it just didn't happen. Why? He's from a smaller school that played and did as much damage with his feet as with his throwing arm.

Which is why the Bears are willing to give him a look at running back.

Over his two years as a starter he threw for right around 6000 yards and 49 touchdowns (not bad). He also ran for close to 4000 yards and 42 touchdowns (pretty damn good). Cleary the man has pretty good instincts as a runner.

The move is smart. Matt Forte is the man in Chicago, but he's not getting any younger and has had injury issues. Chicago will look to Ka'Deem Carey first, but as we've seen in recent seasons late round picks and undrafted guys have gone on to do great things on Sunday.

Will Jordan Lynch? Only time will tell.
