According to the source the Post used in the story they (I'm assuming they means his doctors) thought Sterling was going to die a couple years ago. The 80-year old billionaire is undoubtedly taking the best drugs money can buy to fight it, but that just mean a delay of the inevitable.
A different source claimed Sterling has prostate cancer.
So what does this mean for the Controversy? Possibly a lot or possibly nothing at all.
Rumor has it that if the league proceeds with the ban and fine that Sterling is going to fight tough and nail in court--something he will have no trouble doing.
So what happens if he dies before there is a resolution? Chances are the team will go to his kids. If that ends up being the case they did nothing wrong so there would be no need to proceed.
If he is indeed on his last legs maybe the league should drop the issues altogether, but with the caveat that he relinquish all control to his kids. His daughter's husband is already a team executive so it wouldn't be hard to do.
Sterling would be out of the league and isn't that what everyone wants?
But would those angry over his comments be satisfied? Would they want to expedite matters just so Sterling can lose the team before he passes? If so--does the league really want to appear that vindictive?
Should the league just let karma take care of Sterling?
It will be interesting to see how the controversy unfolds going forward in light of this information.
