Tony Romo Says He Wasn't Scared of Johnny Manziel--But He Should Have Been

It was a little surprising to hear that the Dallas Cowboys were talking about drafting Johnny Manziel, but for some reason they did discuss it internally. When they didn't draft it--well, that was a surprise too. Since when did the Cowboys make moves that make sense?

Now that the draft has come and gone and Johnny Football is now living in the Midwest Tony Romo can say it--he wasn't scared (but he should have been).

In the days following the draft Jerry Jones and company have talked a lot about Manziel and whether they did give serious thought to drafting the popular signal caller (supposedly no). Jerry and his son Stephen--the team's chief operating officer--said they even talked about the possibility with Tony
Romo.
According to Stephen, even if the team did draft Manziel Romo wasn't worried:
“Of course, his response, as you might expect from Tony,” Stephen said, “was, ‘Well, if you decide to, it ain’t going to matter, there’s no one out there who can beat me out.”
Really?

Romo is known far and wide as a choke artist. With the game on the line you can't count on him to engineer the winning drive. He's just as likely to throw an interception as he is a touchdown.

Yeah, his stats are fantastic. He's thrown for a ton of yards and touchdowns over the years, but often times the team is forced to throw in order to overcome his mistakes. He's lacking in two of the most important stats anyway--wins and playoff appearances.

And he wasn't worried?

What does he think would happen after he threw his first interception? What does he think would happen one of those INTs led to another Cowboys loss? And another, and another...

When the team finished with another mediocre record whose head would everyone call for (besides Garrett's)?

If history has shown us anything when it comes to Jerry Jones anytime he says something will not happen that means nothing.

Should Tony Romo flop or if his 34-year old back continues to flair up and affect his game there is no way the team would not consider inserting Manziel (had they drafted him) in to the line up. Heck--Jerry would have the best excuse too. He'd just have to blame it on Romo's back.

So yeah--Romo should have been scared, but since Manziel is with the Browns he's safe and can say whatever he wants.
