Texas A&M Chancelor Gives a Clinic in the Politics of College Football

People have all sorts of ways to solve problems. Some like to talk them out. Others will fight (not good), and some like to hug it out. Some will avoid the issue all together until it explodes while others will drink till no one remembers what the issues was in the first place.

In Texas, folks grill.

In light of yet another arrest involving members (former members) of the Texas A&M football team the school's chancellor John Sharp decided it was time to take action. So he took a page out of his politicians playbook and brought the two sides together.

For a barbecue.

What was he hoping to accomplish? From what I hear it was meant to be an educational thing. Maybe if the players meet and get to know some of the local officers they will act a little better when they see them around. Maybe if they gain an appreciation for the officers as people they will be a little more willing to comply when they see them at parties and/or bars.

While he'll never say it, Sharp was probably also thinking that if  the cops were familiar with the players they might cut them a little slack because they know they are actually good kids.

Shady? Maybe. Brilliant? Absolutely. It's the politics of football.

Don't be surprised if we hear about more player/police barbecues in the near future across the nation.
