Can Former Oklahoma WR Ryan Broyles Ever Live Up to the Hype for the Detroit Lions?

When NFL scouts were watching Ryan Broyles haul in a record setting 349 passes at Oklahoma they likely thought that this kid has something. Maybe--just maybe--we should give him a serious look. If it wasn't for that pesky ACL injury though...

The Detroit Lions were okay with his injury past and went ahead and took him in the second round of the 2011 draft. Now they have to be wondering if--or when--he's going to live up to his promise.

Over the course of his last three seasons of football Broyles has been hit with some extraordinarily bad luck. With two ACL tears and a torn Achilles putting a premature end to each he could probably help train interns looking to know more about rehab.

It sounds like things are going well for him this time around:

“I haven’t felt this healthy to do anything in the off-season,” he said. “I (couldn’t do) a lot of pounding. But this off-season I feel like I’m going to be able to get a full off-season.”

Since he has yet to develop in to the compliment that the Lions wanted to Calvin Johnson the team went out and got Golden Tate. So it now appears that he will have to battle it out just to make sure he gets the No. 3 slot.

But should he win the slot--and he should--once he gets healthy it would not be surprising if he starts to take snaps from Tate.
