Florida State QB Jameis Winston Says College Athletes Don't Need to be Paid; Education Enough

As football season inches closer and closer two things are happening around the country: (1) guys are trying to do as much as humanly possible on their 'honey-do' lists so they can have a reason to say "not now honey; the game is on" and (2) college football conferences are having their respective Media Days.

The latest was the ACC, and as could be expected FSU quarterback Jameis Winston took center stage.

@NFL_CFB

When asked the ever popular question on whether college athletes should be paid he surprised people with his answer:

Wow.

Funny thing is his answer was as sincere as can be, but in light of his crab leg incident there are not too many folks that are likely to believe him. Even if they do, the anonymity of the internet is going to encourage the haters to come out in force.

In spite of the fuel his comment will give the haters it should encourage FSU fans. Winston has said he wants to get his degree before entering the NFL Draft even though he will go top five, become a millionaire, and be able to afford all the crab legs his heart desires.

Talking about the importance of education again should give them reason to believe he's serious about staying and finishing his degree.

So good for FSU, but bad for whatever team has the No. 1 pick in the draft next season.
