St. Louis Rams Michael Sam Has Perfect Response to Tony Dungy's Comments

The most unexpected controversy has been playing out in the media over the last few days--Tony Dungy commenting on how he would not have drafted former Missouri linebacker Michael Sam because he would not want to deal with the eventual trouble of having an openly gay player in the locker room.

Dungy has since tried to clarify his comments (and failed miserably), but maybe Michael Sam's response to them can put this mess to bed sooner rather than later.

When asked Tuesday about Dungy's comments Sam had this to say:

"Thank God he wasn't St. Louis Rams' coach. But I have a great respect for Dungy, and everyone in America is entitled to their own opinions."

Awesome. Funny, to the point, and appropriate--but the best thing he said was when another reporter tried to ask a follow up question:

"I don't really care what people are coming up and talking about," Sam said. "My job is to make this team, that's my number one priority."

That was probably the most honest and best answer he could give. Had he said it bothered him the media would still be talking about it during Super Bowl coverage. Instead he pretty squashed it and put the focus where it should be.

Football. Well done Mr. Sam. Well done indeed.
