Atlanta Falcons RB Antone Smith Shows Potential on the Field But Not in his Stat Line

After a solid career at Florida State where he gained 2,253 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns Antone Smith has had a rough go of it in the NFL. He was undrafted in 2009 and bounced from one team to the next until the Atlanta Falcons gave him a home. While they have kept him on the roster since than he as yet to see much time on the field.

So why keep him? Well--he showed the fans and coaches why during Friday night's preseason game against the Miami Dolphins.

Officially, his stat line was pretty anemic with just three carries for five yards, but that's because a penalty whipped out his best play--a 76-yard scamper that showcased his elusiveness and speed.

At the combine he ran a 4.33 40-yard dash so we know the man has some serious wheels, but all that speed is going to go to waist if he doesn't make the most of all his carries. Yeah, you can't blame him entirely for doing little with his three official carries.

If you don't get any blocking it's kind of hard, but if he wants to see some more time during the regular season he's going to need to figure out how to shine in spite of what blocking he gets.
