Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Blames the Seattle Seahawks for the Increase in Penalties

If you've watched any of the preseason action so far you've likely noticed an increase in penalty flags. Many of them have been illegal contact on defensive backs--something the NFL has said it was going to focus on, but that alone does not account for the increase we've seen.

According to the owner of the Dallas Cowboys--Jerry Jones--the fault lies with the Seattle Seahawks.

During the first two weeks of the preseason teams have been averaging 9.5 flags a game; last season it was 6.1. Some of course are getting hit harder than others. Last week against the Tennessee Titans the New Orleans Saints were flagged 14 times in the first half alone. Seattle's been hit with 21 total.

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll has tried to talk to the league office about it because he thinks many of the calls being made are from incidental contact. With the number of calls being made the outcome of the game is being affected.

“It doesn’t seem quite right,” Carroll said .

If you ask Jerry Jones Carroll has no one to blame but himself.

“It came about from Seattle, who basically played a style that would risk a holding penalty as opposed to not having an aggressive defender back there. That got a lot of complaints and you’re seeing it reflected during the preseason.”

Hmm...Does anyone else find it interesting that the team with one of the worst passing defenses in the league last season (No. 30) is calling out the best one?

So far the league has said that it is going to keep calling games how they've been called, but you have to think that is going to change. You would hope that it would be because someone in the league office fnally realized it's a stupid idea, but that would require admitting fault.

And we all know the NFL doesn't do that.

No, if the league does start calling games like before it will be because fans start to complain about games lasting too long. With the number of flags in some of these preseason games that it is a definite possibility.
