Preseason does help teams get ready for the regular season, but there is the ever present danger of injury that makes teams and fans alike nervous. Saturday night Denver fans become more than just nervous after seeing wide receiver Wes Welker get laid out by Texans safety D.J. Swearinger.

With Welker's injury history they had every reason to be concerned.

After the game Broncos head coach John Fox confirmed what was already assumed--that Welker has a concussion. Welker already wasn't going to be playing in Denver's final preseason game next week, but now fans have to be concerned about when he'll be ready to hit the field.

With his history the team will definitely be treating him with kid gloves. If that means he sits for Week One than he sits. Better to be without him now when the season is young than later when they really need him.
