Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles Forgot a Play During Friday Night's Preseason Game

When you take a quarterback early in the first round of the draft--like the Jacksonville Jaguars did with Blake Bortles--there is an expectation that he is going to play sooner rather than later. For the most part word out of camp has been pretty good on Bortles, and he certainly didn't stink during Friday night's preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He did, however, make one gaffe that you just can't do if you expect to be a starting quarterback in the NFL.

He forgot a play.

It's a little unclear whether he forgot what the play was and didn't know how to run it or if he forgot what it was in the time he heard it through his helmet-com till he tried to make the call in the huddle. Either way it's pretty darn funny.

Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley briefly addressed it and some of his other mistakes after the game (via Hayes Carlyon of The Florida Times-Union):
"He had a check at the line of scrimmage," Bradley said. "He got us into another play and he forgot a play. In the huddle, he forgot a route combination so he changed the play to another one. He had the poise to get us in another one and it was actually complete to [receiver] Mike Brown on their sideline. That was it, not too many."
Other quarterbacks probably would have burnt a timeout in order to make sure they ran the exact play called--so not bad Bortles. While he did have a brain fart he did do a pretty good job of covering for it and making it smell like carnations (if not roses).
