South Carolina Gameococks in Trouble With NCAA for Excessive Cookie Cake Decorations?

The NCAA has a pretty interesting policy. If a college reports its own violations it will likely (but not necessarily) except whatever punishment the school self imposes. However, if you don't turn yourself in and the NCAA has to investigate you....

So in order to avoid being punished later schools will tell on themselves now for any and every little thing under the sun--like South Carolina did after it had too much decorative icing on cookie cakes for recruits.

@TroyMachir

The Gamecocks self-reported 22 minor infractions--seven by the football team--over the last year. Most of them were typical things like impermissible text messages, but there was one that stands out above the rest.

They had too much icing on cookie cakes given to recruits. Yep, that is actually a violation.

Take the time now--in case you already haven't--to laugh and shake your head at how absurd some of the NCAA's rules are.

Things this ridiculous are nothing new. Early in the off-season Oklahoma self-reported itself because a couple departing players ate too much pasta at a team function.

South Carolina also told on itself for letting a recruit take a picture on the field wearing a non-personalized jersey, another attended a practice that a former player now in the NFL was at, and during another they had trophies and jerseys out on a table in the locker room.

Which is against the rules because they are not normally there.

It's good to know that the NCAA has such a lock down on sugary goodness and unusual trophy placement.
