UFC Turning to Staged Gimmick Promotions Like Boxing?

It was just supposed to be a simple little press conference. The two fighters--Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier--were supposed to stare at each other while looking mean, take a few questions, stare at each some more and go about their merry way.

Instead they act like idiots (all be it very tough ones that could kill an overweight blogger with one of those stares), embarrass the sport--and generate a whole heck of a lot of press in the process.

@ForTheWin

Could it be staged? Could it be like the stupid fight between boxers at a restaurant last week that looked so staged their acting coach should be ashamed? Anyone remember when Lennox Lewis and that other guy got in a fake fight during an interview?

Could the UFC be going this route?

I doubt it. UFC does not need a stunt like this to generate press. The popularity of MMA fighting is doing just fine. For some reason the guys couldn't keep it professional this time. When Dana White drops the hammer on them for acting like idiots and interrupting his vacation it will never happen again.

*This is not to say that all of boxing is bad or even most of it, but you have to admit that a lot of these incidents outside of the ring look suspicious.
