Who the Heck is Carolina Panthers WR Brenton Bersin? [GIF]

If you watched the Carolina Panthers take on the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday night you might have noticed this guy for the Panthers make a couple of great catches (one for a first and the other for a touchdown). When the announcers said his name--Brenton Bersin--you were probably like most people and thought one thing.

Who the heck is Brenton Bersin?

His tale is the kind of story that fans absolutely love. He played four years for the Wofford Terriers. Never heard of them? Well--they are a Division I program (FCS), but they play in one those conferences that only make it past regional television when they are getting pasted by a major program.

That being said when Bersin last played for them in 2011 they went 8-4 and made it in to the FCS playoffs.

While his body of work is not extensive (58 receptions, 930 yards, and 11 touchdowns) the Panthers saw something they liked--a wide receiver that could catch and block. It has yet to be enough for him to make the roster, but it has been enough for the team to keep him around.

After signing him as an undrafted free agent in 2012 they cut him during training camp only to bring him back after the season and cut him again during the '13 training camp. Rather than release him to the world the second time they signed him to the practice squad.

Now here he is again doing what he can to make the final roster, and it couldn't be a better time. The Panthers wide receiver corps is dreadfully short on talent and full of unknowns.

Should he continue to make plays during the preseason like he did Sunday night he is not going to be an unknown for long.
