Dallas Cowboys DB Morris Claiborne Likely Done for the Season With ACL Tear; Future With Cowboys in Doubt?

If you want to know what having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week is like just ask Dallas Cowboys defensive back Morris Claiborne what it's like. The former No. 6 pick went from being benched, storming out of the team's practice facility, and becoming fodder for bloggers, media, and haters everywhere before returning to work (must be nice; most of us would be fired).

Now it looks like his season is over.

Early during Sunday night's win over the New Orleans Saints Claiborne sudddennly collapsed on what appeared to be a play with minimal contact. From his reaction on the field and on the sideline ti was clear he was in serious pain and he was quickly ruled out for the night.

Late Sunday night word began to spread over the internet that the team feared it was an ACL tear and he would be out for the season.

"We'll get more on it, but it doesn't look good right now," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said (via ESPN). "I hope we've got a big surprise for us in the morning."

Claiborne has not lived up to the hype of a No. 6 pick, but whether he starts or not the Cowboys expected him to be  major contributor. Now, with the third year of his contract all but done his future with the team has to be in doubt.

Players like to get extensions before they start the final year of a contract, but with the team benching him and his season ending injury it is doubtful they will. Should they offer him an extension it will be at a rate commensurate with his contribution to date.

Since they were demoting him that can't be anywhere near what he wants.
