Did UCLA QB Brett Hundley Hurdle His Way Back in to Heisman Race With Big Game Against Arizona State? [VIDEO]

No one would have been surprised if UCLA quarterback Brett Hundely had gone pro last season. He certainly played like a guy NFL teams would love to have on their roster, but instead he took the road less travelled and returned for his senior season. In doing so he immediately became a Heisman candidate and made UCLA a contender

However, after the first three lackluster games he and the Bruins had people wondering, but after Thursday night's big win over No. 15 Arizona State that may not be the case anymore.

The Bruins and Hundley didn't look good at all against Virginia in their season opener. A relatively close game against Memphis the week after didn't do much to calm the nerves of fans and certainly didn't make Hundley look good in the eyes of Heisman voters.

Then came the Texas game where he was injured and had to leave. UCLA fans everywhere breathed a collective sigh of relief when they escaped with a win, but in the back of their minds they had to be wonderinf WTF was going on.

There team was supposed to be a contender, but here they are squeeking by what should be the easy part of the schedule. With a tough Arizona State team calming up could the season be about to come off the rails?

Will the 2013 version of Hundley shown up and lead us to the promise land?

Fans all know the answer to that one by now--yes!

A week off seemed to be exactly what the Bruins needed to work out the kinks and get Hundley healthy enough to play again. They startedd a little slow--not surprising for a team that had not played in two weeks--but once they got rolling they couldn't be stopped en route to a 62-27 win.

What's even better than the win is how they got it. The Hundley fans and NFL scouts had expected to see finally showed up. On the night he was 18/23 for 355 yards and four touchdowns as well as another 72 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

So does this mean that all is good in Los Angeles? Not yet. One game does not a turn-around make, but should the Bruins duplicate this effort against Utah next week the answer will be really close to yes.

As for Hundley's Heisman hopes--his name is back in the conversation again, but if he is going to become a frontrunner he is going to need to out-duel Marcus Marriota in a couple weeks when Oregon comes to town.
